Spring Season Essentials
Spring marks the start of one of the busiest periods for Australian agriculture, and for operators of DJI Agras drones, it’s the season where preparation and good habits make all the difference. With crops actively growing, weeds emerging and weather windows often tight, drone spraying and spreading can help operators cover more ground efficiently and accurately. But to keep your drones performing at their best through the season, it’s crucial to combine smart planning with disciplined maintenance.
1. Plan for Weather and Workload
Spring weather can be unpredictable… high winds one day, perfect spraying conditions the next. Keep a close eye on local forecasts and be ready to adjust your schedule. Drone spraying efficiency comes from seizing the best weather windows, so don’t leave jobs until the last minute. Build flexibility into your operations and plan your routes ahead of time to maximise daylight hours.
2. Maintain Your Drone After Every Flight
Dust, chemical residue and pollen can quickly build up during back-to-back spraying runs. After every session:
- Wipe down booms, nozzles and tanks with clean water.
- Remove chemical residue before it hardens.
- Check filters for blockages.
- Inspect props for chips or cracks.
This small routine will significantly extend the life of your Agras T25, T25P, T30, T40, T50 or T100 and prevent performance drop-offs mid-season.
3. Keep Spare Parts and Consumables On Hand
Even the best operators encounter accidents: a clipped fence post, a hard landing or nozzle wear mid-spray. Avoid costly downtime by carrying key spares in your service kit, such as:
- Propellers and shims
- Set of weight scales
- ESC (Electronic Speed Controller)
- Centrifugal Atomiser Motor

4. Manage Batteries Wisely
Spring workloads often mean flying multiple tanks per day. Always rotate your batteries, charge them with reliable generators, and avoid deep discharges where possible. DJI’s intelligent batteries are robust, but they’ll last far longer if you follow best-practice charging and storage habits.
5. Document Jobs and Compliance
Remember, every aerial application in Australia must align with CASA and APVMA rules. Keep accurate records of flight paths, chemical use, weather conditions, and operator notes. This not only keeps you compliant but also builds trust with clients who want transparency in their spraying operations.Fly the Farm is in beta testing of a new contractor portal where you’ll be able to log all jobs, calculate chemical batches and more. Spring is a critical season in Australian agriculture—and DJI Agras drones are proving themselves as indispensable tools for getting the job done with precision and efficiency. With good preparation, regular clean-downs, and a well-stocked spare parts kit, you’ll keep your drone flying reliably and maximise every spraying opportunity.
As the spray season ramps up, remember: smooth operations are built on consistent habits. Plan ahead, maintain your equipment, and treat each flight as part of a bigger system of efficiency.
